How A Fashion Writer Dresses For Spring/Summer NYFW Shows… In The Fall

Have you ever wondered what fashion editors actually wear to a week’s worth of runways, presentations, and parties? Well, for this fashion writer — who, like many editors, rarely get offered to be dressed by designers (unlike front-row celeb and A-list influencers) and who is stuck with her outfit all day the moment she leaves her Brooklyn home — here it is. Hi, I’m Refinery29’s senior fashion commerce writer reporting for duty on the best street style looks and runway trends, while trying to look the part for it all.
When it comes to dressing for the Spring/Summer 2027 runways in the fall (when the weather doesn’t quite know if it wants to be 87 degrees one day or cloudy and pouring the next), my outfits tend to be a big mix of spring-ready andfall-forward styles. Think: rich textures and dark color palettes as well as breezy fabrics and playful accessories. But I think I really cracked the code for my perfect outfit formula: a head-to-toe monochromatic look that’s low effort to put together, but really impactful in the end.
