PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) — Preparing for Isaias starts with a well-stocked kit, and residents are being urged to gather supplies now

Items such as drinking water, fuel, non-perishable foods, batteries, and first-aid essentials are recommended for hurricane preparation

Michael Willie, assistant store manager at Home Depot, said extension cords, generators, and tarps can help after a storm

“Extension cords, if possible, generators, tarps are great… in the moment, if any damage. Buckets and trash bags are great to prep as well,” Willie said

Many in the community are gathering last-minute supplies

Lorraine Caposole, a customer, said she has already gathered gas, cash, and dog food

“I’ve already got gas. I’ve gotten cash. I got dog food that I needed. Just taking all the precautions, and I have an evacuation plan as well,” Caposole said

Some hurricane supplies can be purchased tax-free year-round in Florida, including batteries, portable gas cans, and generators

“It makes it easier. It’s something you may not think about until you need it. Now with no tax, you’re able to get it at a more affordable price,” Willie said

The American Red Cross recommends keeping three days of supplies ready to go, plus two weeks of food and water at home. The Red Cross also recommends a month’s supply of medications, if possible
