Palazzo Madama: “The Body of the City. Fashion and the Arts between Liberty and Modernity 1884–1961”

This exhibition focuses on the body as a site of representation and change, examining how fashion, painting, sculpture, photography and archival documents reflect Turin’s cultural and industrial development from the late 19th century through the mid-20th century

Curated by Giovanni Carlo Federico Villa, Maria Paola Ruffino and Gregorio Thaon di Revel Mazzonis, with scientific consultancy by Clelia Arnaldi di Balme, the show is organized in four sections that trace major fairs and the city’s stylistic and social shifts up to Italia ’61

• More than forty garments from Turin ateliers highlighting the evolution of local dressmaking and fashion production.
• Paintings and sculptures portraying Turin’s bourgeois and industrial life at the turn of the century.
• Exhibition-related materials—posters, photographs and documents—illustrating the ties between fashion, industry and public image.
• Sections dedicated to the interwar years and the postwar revival, including Turin’s opening to international art in the 1950s.
