Sweat, oil and pollution can build up quickly during the monsoon. Wash your face twice daily with a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser to remove excess oil and impurities

If your skin suddenly starts breaking out every rainy season, you’re not alone. High humidity, excess sweat and increased oil production can clog pores, creating an ideal environment for acne-causing bacteria. A few simple skincare habits can help keep monsoon breakouts under control.
Cleanse Twice a Day—But Don’t Overwash: Sweat, oil and pollution can build up quickly during the monsoon. Wash your face twice daily with a gentle, non-comedogenic cleanser to remove excess oil and impurities. Avoid washing too often, as it can strip the skin’s natural barrier and trigger even more oil production.

Moisturiser Is Still a Must: Many people skip moisturiser in humid weather, thinking it will make their skin oilier. Dermatologists recommend using a lightweight, oil-free and non-comedogenic moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated without clogging pores. Well-hydrated skin is less likely to overproduce oil.
Don’t Skip Sunscreen on Cloudy Days: Ultraviolet (UV) rays can penetrate clouds even when the sun isn’t visible. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every morning and reapply if you’re outdoors for long periods. Choose a gel-based or non-comedogenic formula if you have oily or acne-prone skin.

Keep Your Hands Off Your Face: Touching or picking at pimples can transfer bacteria, increase inflammation and raise the risk of scarring. Also, clean your phone screen regularly and change pillowcases every few days to reduce the buildup of oil, sweat and germs that come into contact with your skin.
Use Acne-Fighting Ingredients Wisely: If you’re prone to breakouts, look for products containing salicylic acid to unclog pores or benzoyl peroxide to reduce acne-causing bacteria. Introduce one active ingredient at a time and use it as directed. If acne is severe, painful or persistent, consult a dermatologist instead of self-treating.

Small Lifestyle Habits Matter Too: Healthy skin starts beyond your skincare routine. Drink enough water, eat a balanced diet, remove makeup before bed and avoid sharing towels or makeup products. If your pimples continue to worsen despite good skincare or leave scars, seek medical advice—early treatment can help prevent long-term skin damage. (All images: Canva)
