How to prolong your Summer Tan: tips and skincare advice
How to keep your tan for as long as possible The key word? Moisturize. And do it plenty
Summer eventually comes to an end, but we’d still like to hold on to our tan for a little longer. After weeks spent building that perfect golden glow, with every precaution possible, it would be a shame to watch it disappear after just a few showers. The good news is that not all is lost: all it takes is a slight change to your routine. Here’s everything you need to know
How to keep your tan for as long as possible
Hydration comes first
AROMA ZONE – Burro corpo BIO Monoï & Karité
13,95 €
KIEHL’S – Ultra Body Mega Moisture Squalane Cream
49,00 €
L’OCCITANE – Huile Corps Nourrissante Karité
36,00 €
It makes sense that dry skin tends to flake more easily, which also means saying goodbye to our summer glow faster. After showering, then, it’s time to be generous with body creams, butters and oils, applying them while the skin is still slightly damp to help lock in moisture. And, obviously, the first source of hydration is the water we actually drink: staying properly hydrated throughout the day remains essential.
Say no to steaming hot showers
RITUALS – Shower Oil
9,90 €
BIONIKE – Sapone di Marsiglia
27,90 €
AVEENO – Daily Moisturizing
11,13 €
Just a reminder: avoid boiling-hot showers for a little while longer, especially now that we’re getting back into our routines and slowly approaching autumn. They’re pleasant, sure, but they can dry out the skin and compromise its natural barrier. It’s better to keep the temperature lower and choose gentle cleansers, especially if your skin is still recovering from sun, salt water and chlorine.
Exfoliation is fine, but keep it gentle
Q+A – Lozione Levigante all’Acido Salicilico
12,90 €
PAULA’S CHOICE – Esfoliante Body Spot 2% BHA
39,00 €
VERALAB – Reshaper Body Scrub
30,00 €
Even though our instinct might tell us to avoid any kind of scrub so we don’t strip away our tan, exfoliation isn’t necessarily the enemy. In fact, removing dead skin cells can help keep the skin smoother, brighter and, above all, more even. The key is not to overdo it: no harsh physical scrubs and no daily sessions as if we were polishing the silverware. Once a week can be enough, choosing a gentle product and focusing mainly on rougher areas. This way, your tan won’t disappear prematurely, while your skin can continue its natural renewal process without building up that layer of dead skin cells that makes it look dull and lackluster.
And if the color starts to fade, we can cheat a little
LIRENE – Perfect Tan
5,80 €
BALIBODY – Clear Self Tanning Gel
31,00 €
SEPHORA – Gocce autoabbronzanti
11,50 €
Sooner or later, it’s going to happen, no point denying it. When your tan starts to lose its intensity, you can give it a little boost with a self-tanner. There are now thousands of formulas to choose from, from mousses to lighter serums that are perfect for adding some color exactly where it has faded. The important thing is to apply it to well-moisturized skin and, above all, evenly, so the result stays natural and streak-free.
