Resorters Golf: Josh Sherlin starts Men’s Regular title defense in convincing fashion

ALEXANDRIA — A busy week for Glenwood native and defending Men’s Regular division champion Josh Sherlin continued at the 105th Resorters Tournament

Sherlin, the No. 2-seed in the first flight, began his title defense with a 4-and-2 victory over No. 15-seed Peter Dierks on Wednesday, Aug. 5, opening the match with a birdie to win the par-4 No. 10 hole to jump ahead for good, picking up an eagle at the par-5 No. 12 hole and a pair of birdies along the way

Men’s Regular co-medalist and No. 1-seed Cameron Meyer survived an opening-round scare at Alexandria Golf Club, fending off an upset-minded No. 16-seed in Blake Stedronsky to advance after birdying the par-4 No. 18 hole while Stedronsky, who won the previous two holes to force the match to go the distance, parred

The other co-medalist and No. 3-seed Logan Johnson fell to No. 14-seed Noah Boraas in the opening round after Boraas went on to win four of the first six holes in their match, with Johnson briefly squaring it with a birdie at the par-3 No. 11 hole after Boraas won the opening par-4 No. 10 hole with a par to Johnson’s bogey

Other golfers advancing to the quarterfinals in the Men’s Regular division include Sam Horstman, Braylon Bisson, Mark Longhenry, Kendell Banyai and Jackson Anderson

The Men’s first flight quarterfinals in the Regular division takes place at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, at Alexandria Golf Club
