AFTER 45 years of dressing Geelong men for weddings, races and special occasions, Browse Fashions for Men has built its reputation on something that never goes out of style – personal service

The Geelong West business has become a local favourite for occasion wear, with its expert advice and personalised service standing the test of time

Owner Louise Boudrie and her team have stocked a hand-selected range of reputable menswear brands since 1981

Whether men are off to a business dinner, a white-tie event, spring racing or a wedding, Boudrie and her team have the clothing and expertise to suit

While stocking quality brands has helped the business grow, Boudrie said customer loyalty, respect and care remain at the heart of its success

“Everyone who walks through your doors is looking for something or is curious,” she said. “It’s about being a friend, not being pushy

“We want to help the customer and advise them in the best way possible. People trust us because we don’t force the issue. We just let them think and enjoy the process

“You must engage and make people feel special in their own way and be interested in them as a person.”

Boudrie said the retail industry continues to be challenging for many small businesses, but small gestures can make a significant difference

“It’s going to be tough,” she said. “Wages and rent continue to be the hardest things for small businesses

“To have a lot of staff you have to have a lot of business. Working for myself comes in handy in this aspect

“We remember our clients, always. People are very thankful we acknowledge them, can help and give our expertise

“You can’t look at someone and not like their style or the way they act. You need to find them a reason to like your store and not lack in your effort.”

Without the support of its customers, Boudrie said the business may not have survived the pandemic

“After 40 years, my landlord put my rent up, but I survived because of my clientele,” she said

“I’ve never sold so many jumpers and tracksuits, because everyone was stuck at home

“People couldn’t go to Noosa, they were stuck at home, and as a result we did OK

“Word of mouth is the best, and we believe that’s been a godsend for us.”
